My car has been running on really low oil for a short time apparently now my car makes a loud clanking noise when its on i went to a mechanic and he said to replace the engine but he didnt really look at it he just heard it and said 1500 dollars to replace the engine. i think he just wants the money and im not sure the oil is even the problem can i get advice here are the symptoms
-Loud clanking noise
-poor acceleration
-high consumption of gas
-rubbery burning smell
-smoke coming from the engine if driven too long
-stalling if i stop for a stop sign (not always)
-not changing gears at the proper time (its automatic)
any help would be appreciated
