Can I get Basic Car Help?

My mx3 might be having engine problems, how can I tell? My car's starter wouldn't even turn over 5 months ago so I gave up figuring it blew the engine. Now the starter is turning over. Q: If the engine blew a piston would the starter still turn over? I know the oil headgasket or oil gasket is blown, but up till now it wouldnt even roll the starter over? So is the starter rolling over proof my engine rolls over, or are they a different sorce?
I can't get ride of the car, it was the first/last thing my grandfather bought me before he died. All I need is the odds that the engine would turn over even with a broken piston. Mazda Mx3 is a rather nice car anyways XD.
Advanced auto parts said it was the headgasked for oil, 2 of my pistons are being flooded with oil which probably isnt letting the spark plug spark to turn the engine over? All I know is that 2 chambers of my v6 are filled with oil and it wouldn't even start the starter turning over 5 months ago. now suddenly the starter is turning over, is there a way I can tell if the engine's piston is siezed or would the starter not even turn over if it was seized? I'm betting the pistons rod is not cracked, seeing as how the guy who looked said that just the piston head was cracked, and he lived in arkansas *no offense to the arkansas peeps* but I don't trust his judgement? Expecially cuz 5 months later the starter is turning over, almost seems like its just not getting gas? could the gas pump be out?
