Can I get an unlocked phone, say an iPhone and use it with Virgin Mobile's

pay as you go data? I want to buy a smart phone, maybe Android maybe iPhone, and use it on a really cheap plan. Will Virgin Mobile (Canada) or similar service let me do this?
With the data I mean. I could buy unlocked then plug in a SIM card.
