so i want to buy a house....one day.... is there any way to not have credit cards, but still somehow get a credit history and therefore a credit rating towards a mortgage?

While you don't necessarily need "credit cards" you will need a positive credit history. You could buy stuff like cars/boat or Rvs and get a good rating. You can also use a gas credit card - something that you can pay off each month to help with establishing your credit rating. Its either that or save all your money and buy a house all cash.

All this fear of credit cards that people have is really irrational. Credit cards don't have a mind of their own--just use them responsibly and you'll be fine!
You really do need a credit card to build a healthy credit history. Get one and use it regularly; charge small amounts on it and pay it in full every month. That way you build your credit without getting into debt and paying interest.
