Can I drive my Dad's DRZ400 even though I'm not insured for his bike?

My Dad is fully insured on his bike, and I have insurance for the car I drive. I've always just been a little confused as to the guidelines on whether you must be insured on a vehicle to drive it or whether the fact that I'm an insured driver means it's ok for me to drive it. And yes I'm motorcycle licensed.
