A village police officer in Louisiana (NOT a state patrolman) issued me a speeding ticket. I live in Texas. What happens if I just ignore the ticket and don't pay it?

Bench warrant for failure to appear. You get arrested in Texas and get to go back to Louisiana for court.

Suggest you pay the fine............

If you were issued a citation on a local ordinance and refuse to pay, the case will likely be re-filed in state court. Most states have a compact in which they agree to recognize violations and/or convictions issued in other states. Failure to pay the fine or failure to appear for the hearing on the violation will typically result in a suspension of your driving privileges. It will be much less expensive in the long run to pay the fine. If your license gets suspended it is often a long and expensive ordeal to get them back.

There is a thing called the non-resident violator compact. The vast majority of states are members. In a nutshell....if you live in Texas and are issued a ticket in Louisiana and refuse to pay it. The Louisiana court will notify the State of Texas that you have not taken care of the ticket. Texas will then suspend your driver's license for not taking care of your legal obligation to Louisiana. Get pulled over again and you will be cited for driving under suspension and your car could be towed. Then you get stuck with tow and impound fees. Was it all worth it in the end? Pay the ticket and slow down.
