Can I do this with iPhone 3 g with t-mobile?

ok I know you need to cut the iphone with something to put it in the slot and my question is can i jailbreak it and use it as a WIFI hotspot like us it with my mac laptop ps3 so I can cancel my at&t Dsl and only have my plan with t-mobile cause I know it has unlimited web but don't know about tethering. Thanks
