Can i be a retail pharmacist and Biochemical researcher at the same time?
In the same way that a person with a PhD in biochemistry can be a college professor and a researcher at the same time, is it possible for me to be a pharmacist and a researcher at the same time? Note when your thinking about it that in such a scenario i will have a PharmD and also PhD in biochemistry.
Personally I think its possible because as long as I have either an established institute so i can sign for grants or a company that will fund me, then that means i can do research. Pharmacist, who can basically work anywhere, tend to work in these types of enviroments already (such as hospitals or pharmaceutical companies).
The reason I'm questioning it is because someone (a college prof) told me that a company wouldn't hire me too research, develop, and distribute at the same time because that's a conflict of interest. However i now doubt the validity of this statement because that professor seems to be biased about pharmacist (calls them pill counters) and wouldn't even believe me when i said they make on average close 100,000 a year. I also disagree with his statements about conflict of interest, because I think trying to create a drug and trying too sell a drug have complimenting interest and why wouldn't a company want to hire one guy to do the job of two? It would make negotiating salaries much easier since both the company and the employee would benefit from paying the employee more than either occupation individually rather than paying the full price for both jobs.
I think the real reason this kind of thing doesn't happen very often is because one would have to go too school til they are in thier 30's to have both doctorate degrees, but thats just my opinion. Anyway, what i really want to know is if there is some fundamental flaw with my plan that makes it impossible and if you would please eloborate and be specific when you find it.
