Today I got written up for discussing my pay with another co-worker. She asked me how much I made and I told her, then I asked her how much she made and she told me. My salary is my business! Human Resources told me that in "corporate world, you just don't discuss your pay with anyone." I told HR that I wanted to see something in writing. I looked through the code of conduct book and I saw nothing about discussing pay.
Are there any laws out there that say anything about discussing how much you make with your co-workers? Can anyone give me any references? I thought my pay was my business, and if I want to discuss it then that's my right.
Also, she wrote me up for this. I told her I wasn't signing anything until I saw something in writing regarding dissusing my pay with other coworkers.
