Can I clean my small fish tank manually?

I have a 2.5 gallon tank with a filter. There is only a betta fish and a sucker fish in it...I received the tank as a gift and don't know much about fish. When I clean my tank I change all the water and completely clean out my gravel without a tube because I am bad at using it. Will the ph change hurt my fish? I've been doing this for a while and they've been fine, but I'm worried I'm not taking the best care of them by doing this.

On the other hand, my water is extremely clean by doing this!

I add a special betta safe liquid to help stabilize the water when I'm done
 
Your only suppose to do 25% water changes .Your fish will be traumatized if you do this. And plecos get really big if that's what you have. For a 2.5 gallon your gonna need at least 55 gallons for pleco.
