Can I choose my own music for my freestyle dressage tests?

I'm new to dressage, and as I get closer to showing, I have a question about the music played during tests.

Is the rider able to choose their own music? Would it be inappropriate to choose something with lyrics instead of just an instrumental score?

Yes, you the rider chooses their own music for their freestyle. I wouldn't choose something with lyrics, it is better to choose something instrumental. Make sure you check with the rule book of what you can and can't choose. Generally I like the freestyles better without lyrics, and if you really like a song, you usually can get it without lyrics too, and just have the beat to the song :) Hope I helped!

Some of my favourite kur's ever have been done with lyrics (beijing olympics had a great one) The benefit at that level is that they can afford to have people edit and cut the music to fit in with the horses movement. I actually asked a question looking for a kur I had seen and someone gave me a link to a website that already has music for dressage composed so I am assuming it will be very horse friendly.

Edit - ok here it is http://www.equimusic.com/
(I really should have grabbed the girls name who suggested it I feel bad now...)
Ok Thank you ponygirl!!!

It is best not to choose a song that has lyrics. And depending on where your from, it should say in the rules of that association the guildlines for the music.
But Freestyle to music dressage tests should only be ridden to an instrumental, as otherwise the tempo cannot be distinguished between the singing and the music
