can i charge psp through ps3?

a while back i got a psp but i didn't have the internet so i couldn't upload anything to it. i now have plenty of things on my computer, and even my mp3 player, but i have a problem. i lost my psp charger. i now have a ps3, so can i plug the chord used for charging ps3 controllers on my psp? what i mean is can i put the usb cord used to charge ps3 controllers into my psp and then connect it to the ps3 and charge it? my psp is completely dead so i can't change the settings.
 
If your PSP is a 2000 (slim and lite) or 3000 series, then yes you can charge it through USB on the PS3. But if you have the old PSP, then you need the charger.
