Can i change the resolution of my panasonic tv?

Hi there. I have my pc hooked up to my panasonic tv and play my games through it on 1024x768.
But id like to play the games in the next up resolution of 1280x1024 because ofc they look better.

Some games i can get away with doing this and forcing it to 1280, grid 2 for example looks great, but the screen is kinda distroted and i miss some of the screen round the edges, so other games its not possible as theres toolbars, health bars etc around there.

Anyway, i wish i had known the panasonic viera was a max resolution of 1024 x 768 before i bought it, although i did get a good price on it..
The model i have is the Panasonic TH-42PX8B. Spec here...http://www.directtvs.co.uk/Panasonic_TH-42PX8B_HD_Ready__Plasma_Television__V-Real_2_picture_Enhancement_TH-42PX8B/version.asp#top

So, is there anything i can do to force it to 1280?
Ive got a feeling there isnt, but ive just got to ask.

Also, could i be messing anything up forcing it to 1280 in games? Will it affect my tv or graphics card at all?
Been keeping an eye on the temps of the card any they seem fine.

Thanks.
