I ship out for Great Lakes on February 1, 2010. When I went to MEPs I was set on picking out a job and then coming home and reclassifying to EOD. When I got to MEPs, they told me that my eye sight was not good enough (20/200 is the minimum, as opposed to my 20/400). I asked about lasik surgery and if that would change anything...I signed my contract with a rating of ATF/AIRC (aircrew) and I was told that this would put me towards the front of the line to have lasik paid for by the Navy. I asked if having the surgery before I shipped would allow me to reclassify before I go, but I was told that they would not test my eye sight again until I got to boot camp. If I were to have the lasik surgery before I ship, can I change my rating to EOD while I'm in boot camp that way I can go straight to EOD school rather than go to Aircrew Candidate School and wait for lasik?
