Can i buy a vodafone iphone and use it in the states?

the Iphone is working with vodafone, unveiling at the end of march in ireland. so my question is, instead of transfering to at&t, can i get the vodafone iphone (buy it in ireland) and use it in the states since the vodafone partly owns verizon>? has anyone used a vodafone in the us? thanks in advance!
