Can i bring my bike on the air airplane?

so im going to italy from canada ontario. im travelling with sunwing if that helps. i just wanted to know if i could bring my bmx on the plane with me. it can almost fit in my suit case dis-assembled but its a little big, its about 24lbs. i was thinking if i should put it in a hockey bag or something and just through my cloths around it. anyways what do u guys think/ have u ever brought your bike on a plane b4? if so what did you do. thxx
