Im planning on taking a hiking trip on the Appalachian trail soon and i would like to bring a defense gun / small game hunting gun is that allowed. Id be starting in Georgia and working my way as far north as possible

I live in Orange County New York right across from Harriman State park and Bear Mountain Park and I know you cannot bring any firearms, long arms or handguns, into these parks. I have a carry permit for a handgun and I can't bring it into these Parks. If you have a handgun you will be crossing State lines and can get into a mess of trouble, even in States with reciprocal laws. If you have a rifle and want to hunt I suggest you contact NY for seasons and apply for a hunting permit. But in the two parks I mentioned your best bet would be to unload, break down and hide them. I can't answer for the other States but NY can be VERY unfriendly if you violate it's gun and hunting laws.
