Can I break into law enforcement with a associate degree in crime scence investigation?

Hello all, I am currently working towards my associate in applied science degree in crime scene investigation and I was wondering do I have to have a criminal justice or regular police science degree in order to get a job as a police officer? Also would I be able to go directly into the C.S.I field or would I still have to put in time as a police officer???
 
In NY you need 60 credits of college and you MUST pass a state/county exam to be considered for any government job.
