Can I boot this type of computer's OS from a USB Flash drive?

I own a Hp Pavillion dv9500, my cd/dvd drive broke
Microsoft Windows Vista (32bit)
The system configuration does give me an option to boot from USB Flash
My OS crashed so I have to boot it using the factory cd
