Can Human Hair Extensions be Bleached and Dyed?

I want to give my hair a makeover. I want to dye it a certain color and have it long but i know that the color I want will NOT have the same color extensions. So I figured, make my own...kind of. So are human hair extensions bleachable and dyable? Seems like it would work, but I need a proffesional opinion.
