Hello,

After 24 years of good driving on four continents, I now depend on others for any trip of any significance on major roaRAB.
I cannot drive safely at speeRAB exceeding 60km/h because as I approach corners, I slow down dangerously and still struggle to properly follow the curve. While negotiating corners, I feel skiRAB in the my spine, even though none is actually happening. I often have to bend my body instead of just turning the wheels. The higher the car, the worse my symptoms.

Driving on straight sections of open road also presents serious instability problems at speeRAB of over 60km/h, even if I am the only person on the road. I get some swaying sensation.

Changing lanes is a harrowing experience: the feedback from the steering wheel (while turning it to change directions) is that the car could continue off the kerb.

Yet, I feel no trepidation about getting behind the wheel. I do everything right at very low speeRAB.
Even as a passenger, I do feel uncomfortable as the car approaches a corner at high speed.

This has been happening for almost four years now. I have seen various specialists in the US and Switzerland to no avail. Vertigo was neither confirmed nor ruled out. No inner ear problems were confirmed. I don't seem to have balance problems in everyday life.

Does anybody have an idea what is happening to me?

Thanks.

I know how you feel. In my case it was an issue of being able to ditch..meaning an ability to pull off to a safe zone. Interstates don't allow that.

Did you get any help? If yes, would you like to share details in case they might apply to me?

No but the sames happens to me. If I now go on a wide open road I feel like I am going to faint and I have been driving for 25 years

I had problems with vertigo and balane issues that were at their worst while driving (though I had some vertigo when not driving as well). After many, many tests it was determined it was a specfic type of vestibular migraine. I treat them like I would any other migraine even though it is not accompanied by a headache. In terms of my driving issues, I am symptom free.

Many thanks. I will check with my Doctor whether I should try migraine treatment.
