Can global warming/climate change is a good thing for human civilization overall?

From the Middle Ages to the 1700s, the lack of food caused by bad cold weather has basically led to problems in human civilization. From the 1800s onward, civilization has been flourishing due to the warming of the earth. (This is an actual study I looked at in a newspaper a few months ago.) Is the answer to my question yes?
I live in Canada, a cold as hell region in the winter and a break from the snow would be welcome.
 
yea, warmer climates to contribute to the evolution of a society. its warm, plants/foods grow, people are healthy because of that, and they flourish...of course, that was before there was 7 billion people on the planet...there is no room left to flourish
