I can pick up a T5 for about $360 new... anyone at all think this is a good deal on this PDA??

Thanks for the help.

DON'T MESS WITH A T5 THEY ARE CRAP. You can get a T3, which is an awesome PDA for 349 at Circuit City or online for cheaper (more bang for your buck)

The T5 isn't worth the plastic it's made out of. The T3 is metal too!

Office Depot had it at 359.95 today so the "suggested" list price of $400 seems to be falling fast. Unless you have a desperate need for a T5, I would hold off for at least a month as the general price trend is down, something that's a little unusual for a brand new release.

The T5 is getting Bad Press and some of it's warranted and some of it's not. As Jim noted the price trend is very unusual on the surface but I also think that there have been announcement's about the "pending" Christmas season being very unretail friendly and so many of the retailers will try and move thier "bad press" inventory quickly.

Also, on the heals of the problems with the T5, I wouldn't be surprised if PalmOne informed retailers to lower the price. And since the Treo 650 has been announced PalmOne is in the unique situation of having two somewhat desirable vastly different platforms. In the past, P1 has not been faced with this situation of a Phone vs a PDA at nearly the same time.

Last year the Treo was a Handspring release on the heels of the T3....this year their marketing department was pressed to replace the T3 and so the carry over Handspring management was also releasing the Treo 650. This would cause confusion and the retailers will probably migrate more quickly to the 650 then the T5 because of demand.

Should you buy the T5....I think not. I beleive that P1 has got a replacement already in the wings and here is why I say that.

The problems with the T5 are not one of hardware per se...they are a result of software and OS that was "rushed" to market because of this dual release of products.

The OS was not tested thoroughly on the device and the new file system and flash RAM are causing issues......

Why did they rush this to market without thorough testing? Because they had the 650 in the wings and an OS6 device that will probably be launched after this Christmas selling season.

They don't want to launch the new Cobalt machine before Christmas because it will indeed have more issues than the T5 because of the entirely new OS. You wouldn't want a lot of bad press during the Christmas selling season because sales would be higher etc.

You'd rather wait to launch a totally new device and OS afterwards when slow sales would allow for "bad" press to subside before the next selling season.

The T5 is a good device from a hardware standpoint based upon the assumption that HTC is manufacturing it. The release was rushed without thorough testing and so software fixes will be forthcoming.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if PalmOne had even stopped production of the T5 and instructed the retailers to sell down and get ready for more 650's.
