Can fishes eat with the light on?

I know they can eat with lights on , but I have 2 goldfish they have the light on and of all day about 5 - 6 hours on .
when there fed the food stays at the top so they go up and eat
do fishes like it better with the light on or of or doesn't it matter
does it get in there eyes :L
