Well it can help burn calories but will not get you more toned because it doesn't offer a wide enough range of movement of different muscles. Try taking a yoga or pilates class.
I also recommend trying p90x (its a workout video). Sounds crazy but all my friends were doing it and got me started. You won't need all the workouts but specifically the plyometrics, yoga, legs, core and abb ripper will all help you get thinner and toned. I have been using it and I saw great results within a month.
