Can crickets be stunned by freezing them?

I'm doing an experiment that involves measuring cricket legs. Originally, I was just going to take their legs off with tweezers and measure them, but I'm looking for less harmful ways.
In my bio class we stunned fruit flies by putting their container in a container of ice for a few minutes. It worked well and I was wondering if a method like that would work with larger insects. I was even considering putting them in the freezer.
My main concern is freezing the crickets and killing them by accident. Any suggestions would be great.
