I recently received a letter from a debt referral agency demanding that I pay an overdue debt of £67.88. I had never received any letters etc about the money owed (It was to an internet provider that I had cancelled)I phoned the company in question and the amount due was £52.88 because I had to pay a cancellation fee. I paid the £52.88 even though I was annoyed as I had received no letters requesting the money but did not want legal action taken against me. I however refused to pay the £15.00 late payment fee they were charging me as I had not known about the debt and couldn't pay on time something I knew nothing about. I have now received another letter stating they are starting legal proceedings for the £15.00 late payment charge. As a matter of principal I do not feel that I should have to pay it but I'm worried that legal action can be taken. Are the debt agency using scare tactics or can I actually be taken to court for £15.00. Could somebody please advise me?
Thanks
