SO I had a ESI 2 weeks ago. It immediately brought relief for my pain. However my neck stiffened up so I went to a Chiro a week and 2 days after my shot. He said you need to keep coming to me because your pain from Sciatica will come back . Well lo and behold 2 days after seeing him my pain is back and worse than ever.... Could Chiro Manipulations bring back my sciatica? I am scheduled for another shot in less than a week , should I discontinue Chiro appts or is there no correlation between the two ?

Yes, there is a correlation. I'd suggest you not see a Chiro unless your orthopedic spine surgeon and/or neurosurgeon agree it's a viable treatment option. Chiropractors manipulate the spine. If what they do has put pressure on the sciatic nerve then it can and will bring back sciatic pain.

For many people with complex spinal problems chiropractic care may not be the best option, though massage may be. I've often used massage when I feel tight, have spasms, etc.

You have to be very careful when you treat the spine. I do see a correlation between the treatment and the problems you are feeling. For me, Chiropractic treatment is not or ever will be an option. I would seek a physical therapist first over manipulations. Just my opinion though. Good luck

Thanks SpineAZ...

Also Pebble beach.. I wasnt going to Chiro for the low back problems, I should have said no manipulation of the lower back..... I actually went because I play hockey, or try to... and I fell. When I played college baseball I tore my Labrum in 2 spots. Sometimes when I land on it right it Subluxes ( is this the right word?) comes out and goes back in. Well It did and I guess it pinched a nerve because I got sever pain in right shoulder blade and in the shoulder and i got pins a needles in my bicep and the thurab. I thought he could help that. I never thought he would bring back the other pain. I am getting another ESI Tuesday. I will not make this mistake again.
The most painful part of this is the nerve pain in my leg from below my knee to the ankle on the outside of the leg. Its un bearable sometimes!! I hope it subsides enough for me to be active this weekend.

Idon't know what doctor you are seeing for the injections. A good back doc I hope. If so, mention the pain in your lower leg/foot. There are meRAB out for this type of pain which is nerve pain.

Please, please don't go to a chiro unless your back doctor authorizes it. You can do more harm than good. I saw my mom suffer with a chiro and her back and she ended up with surgery anway...but it's just my opinion.

good luck and keep us posted.

He is actually my pain mgmt doctor doing my stuff. However he works within the Oklahoma Sports injury and Spine center. On the meRAB topic, he gave me Mobic and Nuerotin for my leg. I was taking 1 (300mg of Nuerotin) a day of each and it worked 2 weeks ago and all buy knocked out the pain. Now though for the last 3 days they told me I could up to 900mg of nuerotin a day and I have only seen minimal improvement... I hope its only taking time because it getting in the system. I need it to be better by sunday!! HAAH wishful thinking I know...

Ok so I had another ESI on Tuesday. It hasnt worked quite as fast as the 1st one but the pain seems to be going away slowly. I still have pain in the ankle area and tightness in the buttock but no where near the level it was.

I asked my doc what he meant when he said I had damaged discs and how it affected my back by causing Sciatica. He said that there is no physical evidence such as protruding discs or anything touching the nerve causing the pain. It said he thinks its a chemical problem as in something leaking onto the nerve and causing the flare ups. I have one more ESI in two weeks and then he wants me to start Physical theraphy 2 times a week for 4 weeks. I will continue to take Mobic and Neurotin ( even tho I tripled my dose of Nuerotin to 3 pills a day this flare up and it didnt help) I am tired of the pain and want it to stop I really hope this can be fixed. He said he would also suggest a tens unit to ease the pain and help with healing. He said my insurance doesnt cover the costs ( I am happy that it paid for all of the ESI shots) and that he could sell me one himself but I could find a better deal online . ANy good suggestions?
