Can cell phone security deposit be use to pay your bill if u get laid off.?

I have a blackberry storm with verizon & lost my job a & i paid verizon $400 for a security deposit, I don't know if ill be able to get another job in time to get a pay check so that i can pay my phone bill, will verizon pay the bill with the money from my security deposit or do i have to call them & have them do this, or will my phone just be turned off until i pay the bill?
