My girlfriend started taking the pills and she was always mad or sad or down, but she she stopped taking the pills she was back to normal, but then a day later she put on the birthcontrol patch and she started having major mood swings, and she stresses out big time.
so can birthcontrol affect and cause mood swings?
is there any way to stop it?

Yes it can in some people. My best friend was on birth control and I couldn't even stand to be in the same room with her until she got off of it. I don't know what to tell you. I'm sorry.

damn right they go! I could not go a could not go a couple of days without crying when I was on the pill. I changed my prescription 5 times and it still happened, I even lost my sex drive completely. In the end I gave up and we have gone back to using condoms. yeah it may kill the mood for the 30 seconds it takes to get one and put it on but in the end I dont cry for no reason any more and I have my sex drive back.

if you are willing to go back to using them again, I would suggest it... besides, they are sooo much easier to clean up!

I am afraid this does occur in a small number of women. It might be worth her trying a progesterone only pill, but if this causes the same issues a non hormonal method of contraception is the only option.

Oooh boy can they ever. Hormonal rollercoaster. She's basically on a drug enduced PMS until her body adjusts to the hormones (can take three months). Some women are always cranky. This is usually because the birth control they're on isn't right for their body. If she's compatible with her birth control brand and dosage you shouldn't be able to tell she's taking it. That said, a lot of women use PMS and birth control as an excuse to act like a cow and get fat. It shouldn't cause her to balloon up, not does it give her grounds to treat you like crap. You've just gotta wait it out until she adjusts to her dosage, or finds a brand that works for her body.
