What I really want to know is why we're not at war with the Saudis. Osama Bin Laden and 15 of those 19 hijackers on 9/11 were Saudis. They hate the Israelis, too, and Saudi Arabia is a dictatorship. They have more oil than Iraq, yet we are in bed with them because...?
Most people by now realize we never should have been in Vietnam. During the Cold War, the majority of the American public believed the Domino Theory in that if one country fell to communism, another would follow. Joseph McCarthy ruined many lives during the Red Scare. Now it seems all they must do is accuse someone of being a terrorist to gain followers. We accused the Iraqis of terrorism though it's been substantiated that Saddam had no WMD's or any ties to Al-Qaida. This war has cost us dearly. One of my professors mentioned we should have learned from our mistakes in Vietnam. So does anyone else see the comparison between the war on terror and the Cold War? Can you see how this situation in Iraq is another Vietnam?
Sure you can compare them both. Let's face it. We used propaganda to intervene in both of those wars, and what they were really about is because of our national interest. Most people had no idea where Vietnam even was on a map. The same is true about Iraq. It polarized the country, and mainly the hawks were the ones who sent other people's children to war. Back then, civil rights was the big issue on our soil. Today it's gay rights.
