Can anyone recommend a good juvenile fantasy where the protaganist has a dog sidekick?

Sword and Sorcery, or any Fantasy world would be fine, in the 12 year old or slightly higher reading level. Dog sidekick can really be any canine, like a wolf, or some mythological variation.
