Can anyone please explain to me what the word 'lark' means?

As used in this sentence: Crowned miss Fire prevention in Nashville at 17, Winfrey visited a local radio station, where she was envited to read copy for lark - and was hired to read news on the air.

Bassicly I am doing a biography on Oprah Winfrey and I need to know what the word 'lark' means as used in the sentence above. Thank you! :)
Ok, whoever has mean comments is not welcome to answer this question. 1. I am not a very good english speaker. I don't even live in America. 2. I did look up in a dictionary, quite a few times actually and it didn't sound right. I didn't know which meaning fit right....
