I have been working for a company coming up two years. Shortly after Thanksgiving 2010, I was promoted to a management position within the company. I got sick right after taking the job and had a leave of absence. When I came back, I was told that the GM wanted to eliminate the manager position I had just filled. I reluctantly agreed due to the way the company runs and the new way being better for this company. No more than a week had gone by and this new idea was out the window. At no point was the management position I had been offered a month earlier announced as available or offered back to me. Now a new guy that has been there around six months, asked for the management position and was given it. The current manager is over four others that have seniority over him that all happen to be females. Is there anything I can do? Can I file a report or do I have to try to work it out within the company first? (working it out with the company may not be possible. The owner never talks to his employees unless he is giving orders and likes to cut as many corners as he can. The GM basically has run of the place as long as the money comes in and is as fickle as they come). As stated, I have been with this company for awhile now and this is not the first time I have been passed up for a promotion. I figured it had to do with my minimal previous job experience, but once I was offered the management position, I figured if the position reopened, I would've been reinstated, not presented as a demoted employee.
I can update if anyone needs more info. I will not be exact though in naming anyone. I need to keep my job until I can find another one or move away.
