It's a young adult novel I read a long time ago. About 2 sisters, one mentally challenged (that could FEEL colors). The other trying her best to "fit in".
The mentally challenged sister wonders into a neighbor's rose bush and cuts her legs on the thorns. When the neighbor takes her into his house to clean her up she notices pictures of different color roses.
If I'm not mistaken the sister that's trying to fit in gets caught stealing and we find out the neighbor lost a wife... who was either named Rose, or had a love of roses.
