my dad has a virus on his computer, according to antivirus programmes, the virus location is the C:\System Volume Information folder... I cannot find this folder when searching for it via Search then My Computer or by searching his hard drives in the same way. I know the system volume information folder is important and so cannot be deleted but how do I safely remove the virus without having to format the computer as he has a lot of important programmes and files on the computer that he is unable to backup or replace. I need an answer in simple terms, I know my way around a computer but I'm not an expert so need to understand what you write! lol I have contained the virus for now within an antivirus software programme (Avast home edition) which is working but he wants to delete that and continue using his own antivirus programme as before (Zone Alarm). I have read online that you can disable system restore and then reenable it which should remove the file but I want a straight no nonsense answer that WILL work as my dad needs his computer for work purposes and hasn't got the time nor is he able to take chances with things that might not work...

Thanks you in advance for your help!
Sorry for not mentioning the OS - it's Windows XP professional not sure what service pack though!
