So...I had this done yesterday, and the radiologist was unbelievably poor. I had the same test done, just over a month ago, at the same location and had a very bad reaction to the dye. As soon as it hits the nerves, they freak out...it feels like a muscle spasm, but it isn't...anyhow, with this information, the doc still tried to tell me it would be best done without any medication!!! I, of course, told him how this was going to go, and that he was to give me everything he could because I was NOT going in unmedicated. Anyways...long story short, he didn't believe me about having more meRAB at the ready for when the dye hit my nerves, and I ended up screaming the F word at him through my tears over and over until they got some pain meRAB and verced into me.

So here's the report, I'm seeing my doc today into a couple hours, but I'm curious to see if anyone here has had a similar report/symptoms, and what was done to relive the pain...btw, I am one month out of a Left L5-S1 laminectomy meant to relieve leg, knee and foot pain I've had for about a year.

Myelogram: Asymmetric filling of the left S1 nerve root sleeve is seen and unchanged from the 7/14/08 exam (this is pre-surgery myelo).

Mild ventral extradural defects at the L3-4 and L4-5 levels is seen and accentuated with extension. No intradural or intramedullary abnormality is suggested.

Lurabar CT: A Left hemilaminectomy and postsurgical changes in the left lateral recess at the L5-S1 level is seen. Mild broad-based disc bulging is present and similar to the previous myelogram asymetric decreased filling of the left S1 nerve root sleeve is found. No mass effect is present. No recurrent herniation is suggested

At the L4-5 level focal central disc bulging is seen and consistent with small subligamnentous herniation similar to the previous exams. A mild central stenosis is seen and also unchanged

At the L3-4 level mild annular bulging with slight right asymmetry is seen and is slightly more prominent than the previous exam. A borderline mild central stenosis at this level is also present.

The L2-3 and L1-2 levels appear intact...

In the subcutaneous soft tissues overlying the L4 and L5 level a fluid collection measuring 5 cm in length and 1.5cm in height and 2.9cm in width is present. Dependent edema is also noted. This appears new when compared to the previous exam.

Thanks all, any help and input is appreciated.

Hi Josh,

I just saw your post. By now you've been to the doc...and I am eager to hear what he said. Looks to me like the area that is giving you problems is at the L4 level. That nerve root is the one that runs behind the thigh, knee and down the back of the calf into the foot. It can also radiate out and cause pain in the hip that feels similar to bursitis.

The myelogram report looks unremarkable to me...but then, what do I know....What did your doc say??

xx M;)M
