Can anyone give me any author ideas?

Well, for my Literature class, we were just assigned term paper. The point of the paper is to pick one author, read at least three of his/her books, and basically draw out cross-textual references from the collection of works. The thing is, my professor is very strict when it comes to what authors he will accept for it. There have to be at least a few outside sources of literary criticism. These have to be serious analysis's, such as essays written on the author, not a review by the New York Times. He will not accept, let's say, JK Rowling or Dan Brown for this reason. I'd really like your advice on possible authors, or a list of your favorite authors that fit into these guidelines. And please, tell me your favorite books by these authors so I know which ones I should read :) Thank you!
 
Try Cormac McCarty. He won the Pulitzer in 2008/2009? for his fiction novel The Road. The book is awesome an and easy read (although very dark). The Road is also being made into a film. McCarty is developing a reputation for being one of the beast America authors of out time.

or one of my favorite all time authors Kurt Vonnegut Jr. He has some great novels and I sure tons of things have been written about him. Try his book Slaughterhouse Five to start.
