Can anyone explain Hume's three laws of nature?

Hume says that the three fundamental laws of nature are stability of possession, transference by consent, and performance of promises. Human society depends on these laws being observed.

Can someone explain how, exactly, Hume argues that these three laws contribute to stability? Especially in regards to promises.
