Can an DAT file that is corrupt (eg Address.dat) be fixed?

New member
Ater installing my new TX, my desktop wouldn't open. After alot of investigation, I have found that when I remove the Address.dat file from my user folder, the desktop works (except of course there are no addresses). I have so many adresses in the file that it would be burdensom to re-enter all the names. Can my existing file be fixed?
I am using Palm.exe 4.2
