Can an alltel customer purchase a motorola kraveKN4 cellphone and be able to use it

with alltel service? I saw the cell phone on verizon wireless and being that they merged I wanted to know if I could purchase that cell phone and I was told I had to open a contract with that company! I like alltels service but they don't have the motorola kravekn4! It is time for me to upgrade my cellphone!!
