Can American car-makers ever break into the European truck market?

They have been trying to do this for decades, but without much success. This is a problem, since the European pickup truck market is worth a lot of money, if they can get a piece of it.

Right now, the five best-selling pickup trucks for the EU market (there are 27 EU countries right now) are the Nissan Navara (sold in North America as the Nissan Frontier), followed by the Mitsubishi Mitsubishi L200 (the Triton), the Toyota Hilux (similar to the Tacoma), the Volkswagen Amarok, and the Fiat Strada.

The best-selling American pickup truck in Europe is the Ford Sierra P100, but it is way down the list, behind trucks by Citroën and Dacia and and even Peugeot. GM technically owns Opel, which makes a couple pickups, but they are manufactured in Germany.

Why is this? How can American automakers break into the EU pickup truck market?
