Can a University student take the DLPT without being in the military?

I speak Arabic, and heard from my big brother, who is a linguist in the Army...that i can take the DLPT for college credit. I have aspirations to work for any intelligence agency when i graduate, however, condition of graduation is 14 hours of foreign language...and i cant take the Arabic classes in my University (Texas A&M) for they are designed for non-natives. I am currently an 18 year old sophomore in college, is there any way i can take the Exam as a civilian to receive college credit?
 
It only counts for credit for servicemembers. A&M should have test out options for your language, talk to your advisor.
 
It can be done, but not easily. I had a friend who interned with the FBI and was given the Arabic DLPT while he was there. He received college credit but had to work it out with the school in advance. I don't think that it's possible to just say, "Hey, I want to take the DLPT," and go take it. Go talk to your adviser and ask if there is a test you can take to exempt yourself from foreign language,but there is not an Arabic CLEP test. Colleges usually have some type of equivalency test for language classes.
 
I believe if you applied to an FBI, CIA or NSA job that deals with languages,you will be administered the DLPT if they're interested in you. However, the DLPT will, most likely, not grant you any college credits unless you end up going to the Defense Language Institute, which is "the Army Language school". If you do end up going to the Defense Language Institute, you will be studying with the military, but you will not be participating in any of their activities.
