Can a person become a succesful musician with only a high school band education?

I'm talking about jazz and related music (art rock/pop), but I'm interested in synth, computer music, and possibly songwriting. Successful means notice and publication from a local music journalist, and a steady well paying gig.

It's not your education, but your talent.
As far as I'm concerned, you could be a bum on the street, but if you can play, you can play...

I would think that it doesn't matter your level of education.

You just have to be good. You might have to do some self teaching, but if it's what you're interested in, go for it!
