...spouse was estranged? My husbands brothers called him and asked him to sign the paperwork at the nursing home that my husbands father was going. we did not want to because we did not want to be responsible for anything, but the nursing home said that he would only stay as long as medicare would allow. come to find out the man did not even have medicare!!!!! thanks to my brother in law. My husband and his father did not even talk and now the home want us to pay. Can't they get the houses that are in my husbands fathers name (he is deceased)? They cannot go after us can they?
 
They will have to try and collect from the father's estate. If you are the ones inheriting that, then they can get it from you. If he died in probate, they have to go after the estate.
