can a mazda miata 1.6 motor swap out for a 1.8 ford escort gt motor?

i have a ford escort gt with the 1.8 DOHC. i am currently looking to swap out the 1.8 DOHC motor for a mazda miata 1.6 i am wondering if the two motors are compatible and what i would have to do to make this happen. thank you. websites would also help me out
