can a mazda engine be replaced by someone with intermediate mechanical skills?

You can probably do the swap without too much trouble. You will just have to make and watch how everything comes apart and put it back together exactly like it comes apart. Be sure to keep the bad engine close by as sometimes all the parts are not exact matches.Some of the connectors for the fuel injectors and other sensors may not be the same and you need to change them out from the old motor. my friend blew the engine on his 08 mazda 3 and mazda will not cover it. they want $1600 for the repairs. i was thinking to try and help him out, to swap the engine ourselves. the engine itself costs around $900 for a used one. i have a friend whos a mechanic. is it possible? or is this something that is way over our heads?
