can a Mazda 3 engine that has hydro-locked be repaired without replacing the engine?

The problem with the water entering the engine via the air intake is that water can not be compressed like fuel but can only be displaced and the engine stalls under pressure but if you were lucky and all the water drained out then the engine could be ok but your fuel system--pump ,injectors etc need to be cleaned straight away and not allow rust to set in--get a second opinion
 
I drove my car through a patch of water which turned out to be about 1 1/2 feet of water which caused water to get sucked up into my engine the dealer says it has hydro-locked and i need to get it replaced with the price tag of $9700..insurance will only cover a portion of it.. can it be fixed without replacing the whole engine???
 
$9700!!! Yikes. My suggestion, find a used engine from eBay or local salvage yard and have it swapped for a fraction of what Mazda is charging you.
 
No,such damage cannot be easily repaired. Your engines pistons and connecting rods have been badly damaged and must be replaced.

Your lower cost option might be to have the engine replaced with a used engine taken from a wrecked car. Dealers don't generally do this, but you might find an independant garage who would. A junkyard engine replacement could run $3-$4,000.
