I'm completely confused on this and haven't been able to find all the answers I've been looking for online about this sort of situation. I plan to get a second cockatiel for my female who seems lonely during the day while I'm at work or class, and I've been tempted to get a male instead of just another female.
Firstly, I want to make sure that it is safe to keep a male and female cockatiel in the same cage together. Are they guaranteed to get along, and will they try to mate often, if at all, with or without a nesting box or other space to lay an egg? And secondly, I'm a poor college student and for that reason don't plan to raise any chicks. If they do mate often and a fertile egg is produced, how do I handle this if I don't wish to keep it?
