I recently heard a rumor that if a judge wants to they can sentence you to time in jail that does not count towards serving any time for your sentence/plea.(E.G. "Dead time") Is there any truth to this and if so under what circumstances? It was my understanding that any time served in jail would be credited to your sentencing. In case it matters the criminal case is a DUI in the state of Michigan, which my friend plans on serving jail time for anyways.
